We have our neighbors in Wisconsin to thank for our impressive Hand Hewn Timbers. During the settling of our nation, countless farmers moved across the country, settling plots of land and utilizing the trees on their homestead to build their homes and barns. These industrious, determined farmers felled the trees and used an adze (a tool similar to an axe but with the head mounted perpendicular to the handle) to square up the timber. The practice of using the wood available on the property resulted in structures built with a delightful mix of woods – mostly ash, oak, elm, maple and hemlock.
