Reclaimed lumber stacked high in wood warehouse

ABOUT MANOMIN RESAWN TIMBERS

Our Process

Once identified and salvaged, we receive wood in various conditions from our trusted suppliers around the country. Our skilled craftsmen in the wood shop take on the great responsibility of preparing these timbers for the many uses that await them. This process makes use of a variety of modern tools that allow us to turn unusable old timbers into clean and sturdy building materials ready for installation into your home. Meticulous attention to detail means that the reclaimed wood timbers and planks you get from us will function like new but keep that old antique charm.

De-Nailing

After we receive our boards and timbers, they go through an extensive de-nailing process to ensure that there is no metal left in the wood that could cause problems down the road. The supplier removes any nails on the surface before sending us the materials, but we make use of metal detector wands and other tools of the trade to ensure that nothing is left but the reclaimed wood itself.

Kiln Drying

To set our wood apart from the other options on the reclaimed market, we use enormous kilns to dry out the milled lumber. This process balances the moisture content of the reclaimed wood with the relative humidity of its environment, ensuring minimal warping and shrinkage wherever the wood ends up.

The powerful heat treatment also destroys any bugs or larvae in the wood, ensuring no unwanted pests make it into your home. This often skipped step in the process allows us to provide the best possible product for your project.

Milling

Most of the salvaged wood we receive is sadly not in the best condition when it comes to us. Uneven and warped timbers need to be milled into perfectly flat, straight, and square planks and beams before we can send them out.

This job requires the right people and tools, of which we have both. Our skilled team craftspeople in the woodshop use saws, planers, joiners, molders, specialty tools, and of course their rich experience to shape the reclaimed wood into one of a kind boards that will become your works of art.

Installation

By the time our reclaimed wood timbers reach your home, they have been carefully conditioned by the best woodworkers and tools around. We recommend you continue the installation process with equally qualified craftspeople to get a professional finish that maintains the high standards of these beautiful materials.

Whether you are after flooring, beams, or custom furniture, we are happy to refer you to one of the many experienced contractors in Minnesota or western Wisconsin that we have the pleasure of working with.
