Every so often a home comes along that reminds us exactly why we do what we do. The Interlachen Modern Lakehouse is one of them. Set on the wooded shoreline of Gull Lake in northern Minnesota, it is a new build that reads like it has always belonged there — walls of glass that frame the water, a grounding palette of wood, stone, and steel, and a quiet, lived-in warmth in every space. No detail was overlooked, from the beach-side “ready room” built for days on the lake to the moody lower-level family room made for big gatherings.

It is the kind of project that only happens when gifted people pull in the same direction. We were the reclaimed wood supplier on this one, and we are genuinely thankful our material got to play a part in something this beautiful. Here is a look at the team behind it, the home itself, and the reclaimed woods that bring it all to life.

A Collaboration of Craftspeople

R&R Schultz Custom Homes — Builder. R&R Schultz turned the drawings into reality with the kind of craftsmanship reclaimed wood deserves. Antique material asks more of a builder — every board has its own character — and their care shows in every clean joint, tight reveal, and thoughtfully finished surface.

Tays & Co. Design Studios — Interior Designer. Tays & Co. layered the interiors into something cozy, moody, and deeply livable. Their material pairings — reclaimed wood against plaster, stone, leather, and steel — are what make each room feel collected rather than decorated, and they are the reason the home photographs (and lives) so well.

Marka Architecture — Architect. Marka set the bones of this home: the soaring, light-filled volumes, the generous glazing that pulls the lake indoors, and the easy flow between rooms and the outdoors. Their design gives the reclaimed wood room to breathe, letting timber, stone, and steel speak together without ever competing.

Taylor Hall O’Brien — Photographer, and Spacecrafting — Videographer. The images and film that captured this house did it real justice, preserving the light, texture, and atmosphere that make it special.

And alongside them, we, Manomin Resawn Timbers supplied the reclaimed wood throughout — flooring, paneling, box beams, stair parts, trim, and cabinetry.

The Reclaimed Wood

Reclaimed wood is never just a finish — it is history you can touch. Every board we supplied for this home was salvaged from barns, farm structures, and industrial buildings, then carefully de-nailed, kiln-dried, and milled in our shop. Three antique species do the heavy lifting here, each chosen for where it would feel most at home.

Antique White Oak

Strong, tight-grained, and quietly elegant, Antique White Oak is the workhorse of this home — and it shows up almost everywhere. It runs underfoot as flooring, wraps walls as paneling, forms part of the reclaimed box beams overhead, and was milled into the kitchen cabinetry. Its subtle grain and warm neutral tone give the modern spaces a sense of permanence without ever feeling heavy.

Antique Elm

Antique Elm brings the character. Milled from barn timbers that can date back to the 1800s, it carries the marks of its past life — wormholes, peg holes, and rich tonal variation — that no new wood can fake. Here it appears as flooring and paneling, as part of the box beams, and as the trim that ties the millwork together, adding warmth and a story to the rooms it touches.

Antique Oak

For the staircase, we supplied Antique Oak stair parts — a fitting choice for one of the hardest-working, most-touched features of any home. Durable and handsome, the reclaimed oak grounds the stair as a sculptural moment, connecting the levels of the house with the same honest material found throughout.

A Home Built for Lake Life

What we love most about this project is how hard every space works while still feeling serene. The living areas open completely to the water, so the reclaimed wood and the lake are always in the same frame.

Gathering is clearly the point of this house. The dining area sits in the glow of the windows, the lower-level family room invites everyone to linger, and the screened porch blurs the line between inside and out.

As Featured in RUE Magazine

We were thrilled to see this home celebrated beyond our own walls: the Interlachen Modern Lakehouse was featured in the “Second Nature” Winter 2026 issue of RUE Magazine. It is a wonderful recognition of the whole team’s work — and a reminder of how beautifully reclaimed wood can sit at the heart of a thoroughly modern home.

To Marka Architecture, R&R Schultz Custom Homes, Tays & Co., and the homeowners — thank you for letting our reclaimed wood be part of this remarkable home. Every detail is perfect, and we could not be prouder of the small role our material played in it.
