Manomin Resawn Timbers is excited to see our beautiful weathered antique timbers lining the walls of yet another wonderful home from Wes Hanson Builders. This new build modern lodge on the stunning Gull Lake makes heavy use of reclaimed wood box beams and paneling to lend a rustic edge to the lakefront property.

With a spectacular, bright design from Katie Kottke Interiors, the build is the perfect marriage of contemporary layout and the comforting feeling of a grand lodge. Tons of natural light puts into view the many wonderful features and ensures a clear sight of the outdoors that any lake house should boast.

Reclaimed Wood Ceiling Panels Give A Reason to Look Up

The entirety of the grand hall of this modern lodge is covered by a roof of reclaimed wood panels. Our weathered antique timbers bring their unrivaled uniqueness so that no two spaces have the same detail. You could stare at the ceiling for hours finding new patterns and hues in each of the hundreds of panels above.

While the wood itself carries mostly light browns and sandy tones, darker highlights in the grain create an effective contrast with the white walls and help the other dark accents in the room pop. The brighter colors in the wood are still able to catch the abundance of natural light to keep the hall glowing all day long.

The many ceiling lines expertly placed by Wes Hanson Builders create a number of layers for the large living area. From the vaulted ceiling to the decorative eaves and the balcony, each establishes another level of visual interest and contrast. The white walls between the paneled ceilings break up the vertical space and draw the eye to the darker lines drawn by the reclaimed timbers.

Reclaimed Wood Box Beams Add Yet Another Layer Of Intrigue

With many of the architectural features of this long Gull Lake lodge running lengthwise, perpendicular angles become very effective at drawing attention and widening the space. The expert eyes of Katie Kottke Interiors were able to find the right tools for the job and create a grand space that takes advantage of its length while efficiently filling the space to make it feel anything but narrow.

Our weathered antique box beams provide a great structure, laced over the warm paneled ceiling. A single decorative beam runs the length of the vaulted ceiling, creating a structure against which the horizontal beams can lay, drawing attention to the width of the room.

The decorative box beams also cut the patterns of the ceiling panels laid lengthwise against them. This lattice of reclaimed wood gives your eye something to focus on at every point rather than getting lost in a vast sea of blended panels.

Recessed lighting throughout the room allows the focus to remain on the beautiful reclaimed wood and all of its intricacies instead of having the vertical space dominated by large light fixtures. This lighting choice also balances the contemporary side of the design with the rustic feel of the paneled ceilings.

Vertical reclaimed wood box beams are used sparingly to connect the antique ceilings with the newer wood floors. These beams are more accent pieces, highlighting the color motif established by the paneling above.

The choice of tables and seating in the grand room are smartly aligned with the horizontal box beams overhead. These long features, running perpendicular to the lengthy room also help to widen the space and create spatial contrast that showcases the design expertise of Katie Kottke Interiors.

Reclaimed Wood Paneling For a Cozy Bedroom

A favorite feature of this Gull Lake lodge is the cabin sleeping area. A perfect setup for family gatherings or a summer sleepover, Wes Hanson Builders created a wonderful, communal sleeping area upstairs with a number of bunk beds and single sleepers to accommodate a whole host of visitors.

The entire sleeping area is reminiscent of nights spent at summer camp chatting with friends from the cozy comfort of a sleeping bag. Though these beds are no doubt comfier than the old camp mattresses, and the bunks a good deal sturdier, built in iron and affixed right into the walls.

The same modern design elements from the grand room appear here, with white walls and black accents and fixtures. More contemporary, wide plank hardwoods grace the floor, and the beds are adorned in newer greys and tans.

With all of these elements in place, a bit of reclaimed wood paneling helps to maintain a design consistent with the rest of the modern lodge. Reclaimed weathered antique wood adorns the walls next to each bed, creating decorative backdrops that embrace the sleepers in that comforting, cabin feel.

More Reclaimed Wood Paneling Features the Rest of the Build

The use of reclaimed wood paneling continues throughout the build, continuing the motif established in the main room. More white walls with black features create a continuous aesthetic for the modern lodge, while the reclaimed wood lends its rustic appeal to remind you of the beautiful outdoors all around.

More weathered antique paneling in the mudroom creates a classic accent wall, perfect for the wrought iron coat hooks laid against it. The mixture of natural and industrial materials here is subtle, yet effective in evoking the old cabin feel.

Away from the main house, a luxury shed sits lakeside, ready to be a base of outdoor operations in the summer. A full complement of cabinets and a beverage fridge means the place can be stocked with whatever you might need on a summer day to stay out on the beautiful Gull Lake.

This outbuilding is where the design diverges from the rest of the house with walls and ceilings done in reclaimed wood panels. The deep colors and varied patterns of the panels match the darker hues of the cabinets and floors, and give the space an even more rustic feel appropriate for an outdoor space.
