At Manomin Resawn Timbers we love seeing the fruits of our labor as our reclaimed wood finds its way into a variety of beautiful projects. This month we wanted to take a look at this stunning luxury prairie home clad in rustic reclaimed exterior wood siding.

Sitting on 90 acres of restored prairie in Independence, MN, this build made good use of the land with a spacious main house, wood barn, pool house, and pool. Constructed by the talented Hagstrom Builder, this project is a shining example of the depth and character that reclaimed wood can lend to any structure.

Modern Design Meets Timeless Materials

Designed by Rehkamp Larson Architects with a focus on clean lines, natural light, and a seamless connection to the surrounding landscape, the home embraces the principles of modern design while incorporating elements that ground it in warmth and history.

At the heart of the home is a stunning glass-encased great room, a breathtaking space that floods the interior with natural light and offers panoramic views of the surrounding prairie. Floor-to-ceiling windows dissolve the boundary between indoors and out, allowing the beauty of the changing seasons to become part of everyday life.

The multi-story glass walls are framed by exposed metal beams, adding an industrial contrast to the rich textures of reclaimed wood and natural stone that define the home’s aesthetic. The standing-seam metal roof provides a contemporary contrast, adding durability and structural clarity to the home’s refined design.

The house is thoughtfully organized into crossing wings, creating long, uninterrupted sightlines that enhance the sense of openness and fluidity. This architectural design not only maximizes natural light and airflow but also defines distinct indoor and outdoor spaces such as intimate courtyards that offer serene outdoor living.

Inside, antique mixed hardwood wall and ceiling paneling from Manomin Resawn Timbers brings texture and character to the walls, complementing the sleekness of the modern framework. Outside, the house is clad in a harmonious mix of stone and reclaimed exterior wood siding that blends effortlessly into the landscape.

Manomin’s Hand In The Project: Wonderful Reclaimed Exterior Wood Siding, Floors, And Panels

Manomin Resawn Timbers played a crucial role in bringing warmth, depth, and a sense of history to the space through its reclaimed antique exterior wood siding, flooring, and paneling. Each plank and panel tells a story, adding character to the home’s sleek architectural lines while seamlessly integrating with the surrounding landscape.

Antique Skip-Planed Oak Flooring: A Dark, Weathered Beauty

On the upper level and throughout the bedrooms, antique skip-planed oak flooring provides a striking foundation. With its darker, weathered tones and timeworn texture, this flooring enhances the cozy, intimate feel of the private living spaces.

The skip-planing technique leaves behind subtle variations in texture, allowing the wood’s original saw marks, grain, and imperfections to shine through. This creates a floor that is not only rich in history but also uniquely tactile with each step over the reclaimed oak serving as a reminder of its storied past.

Antique Mixed Hardwoods: Light, Textured, and Timeless

In contrast to the darker tones of the oak flooring, antique mixed hardwoods were used throughout the home’s wall paneling, ceiling paneling, and exterior wood siding. This reclaimed wood, with its lighter, sun-faded hues and mottled patterns, brings a soft, organic balance to the structure.

Indoors, the paneling lends warmth to the vast, open spaces of the great room and hallways, breaking up the modern lines with its natural, timeworn texture. The wood panel ceiling adds dimension and depth, drawing the eye upward to appreciate the craftsmanship of the materials.

On the exterior, the antique mixed hardwood siding beautifully complements the stonework and the neutral prairie landscape, creating a home that feels deeply connected to its surroundings. The varied tones in the wood mirror the subtle shifts in color found in the grasslands, while its naturally aged patina ensures the home blends effortlessly into the environment.

With Manomin Resawn Timbers’ reclaimed wood products, this home achieves a level of character, sustainability, and timeless elegance that new materials simply cannot replicate. By bringing new life to old wood, the project not only honors the past but also creates a space that will be cherished for generations to come.

The upper landing and hallway are adorned with antique skip-planed oak flooring, which grounds the space in rich, dark tones full of character. The weathered oak, with its distinctive grain and historic marks, enhances the intimate feel of these private corridors.

Overhead, antique mixed hardwood ceiling paneling adds a lighter, rustic contrast, creating a beautifully layered effect that makes the transition between rooms feel organic and inviting.

Kitchen, Living Room & Sun Room: A Seamless Flow of Natural Elements

In the main living spaces, including the kitchen, great room, and indoor/outdoor patio, reclaimed wood works in harmony with stone and metal to create a cohesive and balanced design.

Ceiling paneling in antique mixed hardwoods extends throughout, softening the architectural lines and adding warmth to the airy, glass-enclosed rooms. Wall paneling in select areas brings additional texture, complementing the natural stone walls and enhancing the depth of each space.

The sunroom, a key feature of the home, is a perfect showcase of how reclaimed wood can create a sense of flow between interior and exterior spaces. The use of mixed hardwood paneling here ensures a natural transition between the warmth of the home’s interior and the open beauty of the surrounding prairie.

The Wood Barn: A Timeless Structure Built from History

A standout feature of the property is the wood barn, a striking structure that fully embraces the character of reclaimed materials. Every element, from the exterior wood siding to the interior wall and ceiling paneling, is crafted from antique mixed hardwoods, ensuring that the barn feels both authentic and enduring.

The natural variations in tone and texture tell the story of the wood’s past life, making the barn a true architectural centerpiece that feels as though it has stood on the land for generations.

From the strong interior features to the way the home integrates with the vast prairie landscape outside, reclaimed wood plays a defining role in making this residence a truly remarkable example of modern design fused with natural history. The collaboration between Manomin Resawn Timbers and Hagstrom Builder has resulted in a home where every plank and panel tells a story, bringing character and depth to a space designed to last a lifetime.
